What is PoE?

Power over Ethernet (PoE) is the technology in which a single Ethernet cable is used to both provide low-voltage DC power and enable network communication.

PoE lighting systems provide far more flexibility than traditional high voltage lighting. LED lighting has proven it’s superiority in both residential and commercial environments. Using PoE Lighting provides many advantages to facility management including time and cost savings, as well as safety and reliability.

A recent study published by the Department of Energy (DOE) in February 2017 stated that:
“Connected lighting systems that can report their own energy consumption can deliver increased energy savings over conventional lighting solutions by facilitating data-driven energy management.”

Why use PoE?

Using PoE Lighting has many advantages to facility management.

Time and cost savings – Time and expense of installation, when compared to typical high voltage installation, is significantly decreased. Network cables do not require high voltage and can be located anywhere. Additionally, these low voltage installations do not require licensed electricians. Certified installers can be utilized at a lower hourly rate than electricians.

Flexibility
– Consumer can easily adapt new lighting policies at the touch of a button from their mobile device.

Safety – Low voltage cables present little to no risk of electrical injuries during installation and risk of electrical fire is greatly reduced.

Reliability – LVT’s unique system is controlled by a central source, rather than a collection of distributed circuits. This centralized system reduces mechanical failures and allows for easy maintenance if an issue does occur. It can also be supported by UPS.
Information – Data is collected and available in real-time, seamlessly reporting any anomalies for better facility management.
